Rosemary DiCarlo, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, visited the Republic of Korea (ROK) from 4 to 6 November 2024.
Ms. DiCarlo expressed appreciation for the ROK’s strong support for the work of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and exchanged views on the developments on the Korean Peninsula, including the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) ballistic missile launches on 31 October and 5 November in violation of UN Security Council resolutions. The Under-Secretary-General and ROK officials also discussed reports that the DPRK has deployed troops alongside forces of the Russian Federation in the war with Ukraine. They agreed to continue to engage closely to address peace and security challenges, touching on, among others, the situations in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Sudan, as well as the work of the Peacebuilding Commission.
Ms. DiCarlo met with Foreign Minister Cho, Unification Minister Kim, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee of the National Assembly, Kim Seok-Ki, and the Vice Chair of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, Kim Young-Bae.
