UNIFIL’s Sector West peacekeepers conducted two separate training courses for members of the Lebanese security agencies in Shama, south Lebanon, last week.
Officers from the Italian Carabinieri Military Police organized sharp shooter skills course for 20 Lebanese police officers, while a Croatian team of explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and improvised explosive device disposal (IEDD) instructors trained 10 Lebanese Armed Forces officers on improvised explosive devices, mines, unexploded ordnances.
The courses were divided into practical and theoretical parts and the purpose of both was to enhance mutual understanding, interoperability and capability between Lebanese security forces and UNIFIL units operating in south-western Lebanon.
Enhancing the capability of the Lebanese state security forces is one of UNIFIL’s mandates.
