On 17 November 2017, UNMIL supported the Ministry of Justice and the Liberia Law Enforcement Association to convene a dialogue on the role of security sector institutions in promoting a peaceful, democratic and transparent election at the Bassa Women's Association in Buchanan. One hundred participants represented government agencies, security and justice sector institutions, civil society organizations, women, youth and traditional groups and UNMIL. The Assistant Justice Minister for Administration and Public Safety, the Election Magistrate of the National Election Commission, the County Police Commander and the President of the Bassa Women's Association each presented on their mandates. Participants discussed the challenges to maintaining peace in Liberia during the electoral period. The event provided a forum for government agencies, security sector institutions and community members to answer questions and address concerns related to the ongoing electoral process. This event was the last in the dialogue series supported by the UNMIL-SSR Quick Impact Project on elections security. Past dialogues were convened in Montserrado, Bong, Nimba and Bomi.
