Today is International Day of Biodiversity! As we encroach on nature and deplete vital habitats, increasing numbers of species are at risk. That includes humanity and the future we want. As part of our efforts to protect the unique ecosystem in the buffer zone our UNPOL officers work closely with the Game & Fauna Service in Cyprus to provide a safe haven for nesting barn owls. The birds and young fledglings are all checked and ringed before being released back into nature. Barn owls are superb silent nocturnal hunters of rodents and are part of the rich biodiversity on the island that must be protected for future generations. This is just one of the many projects supported by UNFICYP's environmental committee. GreeningtheBlue
