As part of its support to local communities, UNIFIL’s Nepalese Battalion (NEPBATT) provided veterinary assistance to farmers in Markaba Municipality, south-eastern Lebanon, last week.A team of veterinary personnel led by Major Dr. M.P. Shah of NEPBATT treated 125 cows, 20 sheep and five horses in the area on 5 October. Major Shah said the animals received treatment for worm infestation, mammary gland infection (Mastatis), fever, external parasite, nutritional problems and wounds.On the occasion, the Nepalese peacekeepers also distributed free medicines to the local beneficiaries.NEPBATT extended the veterinary assistance in coordination with the local Municipality and the Lebanese Armed Forces. In the past, the Battalion has conducted similar activities in Blida and Chaqra, within its area of responsibility.Complementing its primary task of peacekeeping operation, UNIFIL also undertakes several community-targeted interventions within its area of operation. Working with various government and community entities, they are all geared towards assisting the Lebanese State in expanding its reach and services within the UNIFIL area of operation. The objective is to maintain the existing stability and create an environment conducive to sustainable peace.
