Putting Victims' Rights First: Supporting Children Born from Peacekeeper Misconduct

Agnes’s story is one of resilience, pain, and hope. After losing everything to a volcanic eruption in the East of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2002, she was left to raise a child alone—abandoned by a UN peacekeeper who fathered her child. Today, with the help of the Trust Fund in support of victims of sexual exploitation and abuse, Agnes has started to rebuild her life, but her daughter longs for a father whom she doesn’t know. The United Nations calls on Member States to take action and ensure children fathered by peacekeepers receive the recognition, care, and support they urgently deserve.
