Emphasizing the crucial role of women in peacemaking, top United Nations Official in Cyprus, Colin Stewart, met with representatives of the Cyprus Women Bi-communal Coalition, the Center for Gender Equality History, the Gender Advisory Team, Hands Across the Divide, the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network – Cyprus, and Women Walk and Talk to learn how they plan to follow-up on their meeting with UN DPPA USG Rosemary DiCarlo on 10 February. SRSG/DSASG Stewart was impressed to learn of the concrete and constructive suggestions made and encouraged the group to continue their efforts to ensure women’s voices are heard in the absence of negotiations and to ensure that women participate fully, equally and meaningfully as part of any resumed UN-facilitated negotiations in Cyprus.
